eCommerce 20% Time Post #5

This week I made a PowerPoint presentation of my 20% time topic. I included slides for parts of the brain and their functions, mindfulness, 10 ways to be more positive, effects of mindfulness, and the mindfulness activity. I don't have any more questions, but a challenge I have come across is trying not to fill the PowerPoint with too much information. Next week, I will try to take some information out and memorize it, and fine-tune the mindfulness activity.

https://www.shopify.ca/blog/start-online-tshirt-business This week I read, "How to Start an Online T-Shirt Business: Everything You Need to Know." This article is about creating a unique, low-investment, and successful t-shirt brand, not just business. Some factors going into this process are finding a specific niche/target customers to sell to, original designs, quality material, a strong brand that connects to the niche, and deciding on inventory options. The article also talks about the printing options for the shirts, and advertising through apps and social media. I was interested in reading this article because I wanted to know how t-shirt companies can be unique, and what went into creating one. Overall, this article would be very helpful for someone thinking about creating an online t-shirt company, not knowing where to start.

This week I pulled some ideas together in order to create a mindfulness activity. In AP English Language this year, my class has been practicing a mindfulness activity every week. I used some ideas from these short meditation activities, and brainstormed a list to be able to include in an activity of my own. I have some questions about how to record this activity, but I have a pretty good understanding of what to include in it. A challenge I have come across is deciding what program to use to record an activity. My goals for next week are to record the activity, or create a poster of the brain.

https://www.shopify.ca/blog/discounts-and-coupons This week I read, "19 Ways to Use Offers, Coupons, Discounts, and Deals to Generate More Sales." This article is about the positives and negatives of using deals for a business, and how to use them effectively. Offers can increase customer loyalty, but can also make a business unprofitable. A business needs to create goals and use deals wisely according to those goals. For example, a business can use holiday deals or a first-time shopper offer to intrigue customers, and the business can use a subscription offer or a customer loyalty offer to keep the customers. I was interested in reading this article because the title straightforwardly related to eCommerce. In all, this article would be very helpful to businesses thinking about using deals, as this article explained different types of deals and examples in great detail.

This week I researched mindfulness, how practicing mindfulness affects the body, and ways to be more positive. I found the definition of mindfulness to be: a mental state, focusing on the moment and being aware of your current state of mind/presence. Mindfulness can increase positivity, but another way to be more positive is to keep a journal or spend time in nature. Some questions I still have are: How more specifically does mindfulness affect the brain? and What is an example of a mindfulness exercise? A challenge I have come across is coming up with a mindfulness activity, and trying to decide how to tie it in with the rest of my research. My goals for next week are to gather information to form a mindfulness activity, and to put it into action.

This week I researched the functions of the different parts of the brain I found. For example, the cerebellum helps coordinate motion, the hypothalamus controls body temperature, hunger, and thirst, and the thalamus relays motor and sensory skills to the cerebral cortex. Some questions I still have are: How do these parts of the brain specifically relate to each other? and What parts of the brain have to do with positive feelings? A challenge I have come across is putting the parts of the brain from two different sources together, and trying to distinguish the different parts from each other. My goals for next week are to study mindfulness and how the parts of the brain can help you in staying calm and positive. Also this week, I found out that the brain and the spinal cord are included in the central nervous system, so information is transferred from sensory organs through the nerves and spinal cord into the brain where the information is processed.
